I’m excited to announce that I’ve been offered and have accepted the role of Chief Operating Officer for Team McAfee. I am gratified and humbled by the confidence placed in me by our founder John McAfee and CEO Jimmy Watson. To me, these men are giants, and I shall endeavor to do my utmost to fulfill the expectations of my new role in this important organization.

This personal transition comes during a period of uncertainty and peril for the cryptocurrency industry at large. Many community members still hold to the original ideals and goals of the movement, ideals and goals that Team McAfee shares. But these ideals and goals – including the elimination of asymmetrical relationships through distribution, reforming the human relationship towards money and value, empowering individuals to solve problems themselves, and unseating the abusively powerful of today’s world – have been watered down by new people with less savory ideals and goals, attracted by the money and little else.

Adding to this, many of the true believers have fallen silent, afraid to lose the small bit of success they have garnered so far. They have fallen victim, much like many members of the Libertarian Party, to the Stockholmish misconception that seeking respectability should be the goal, rather than defeating those who seek to do us harm on an ongoing basis. So they delude themselves and attempt to delude others into believing that being granted a seat at the table by our masters is somehow a better pursuit than overthrowing those masters.

The battle is real, and anyone who doubts that needs only to look at the losses already suffered. Last month, one of the stalwarts against government overreach, Shapeshift.io, announced that they would now be demanding government papers from people interested in trading on their platform. Feeling the agencies closing in, they decided that the only way forward was to capitulate. While I can take sympathy with the people involved not wanting to go to jail or go out of business, I cannot agree that the cryptocurrency movement is served well by the decision or outcome.

But at least they were trying to begin with. There is, unfortunately, another element that has been attracted to cryptocurrency, simply because they are attracted to money. These are the straight up criminals, corrupt organizations and scam artists. Now I happen to believe that many people have a hair trigger, far too sensitive, for deeming an ICO to be a scam. Many are not. But some are, and part of our mission at Team McAfee is to help bring these rotten elements to light, along with the corrupt and criminal exchanges that enable them.

To prepare for this ramping up, Jimmy Watson made a decisive choice to expand the leadership footprint. John McAfee stands in a category all his own, and is preparing even as we speak to run a national campaign designed to amplify cryptocurrency in the public eye as never before. Anyone that believes he will be ignored or dismissed hasn't been paying attention, and is sorely mistaken. So right now we’re busy building partnerships and fueling initiatives so that when the time comes, we can help John achieve the maximum possible impact.

This is an exciting time to be alive, and people that think $20,000 Bitcoin was a big deal only need to wait to see what this community is truly capable of. Here's a hint: it cannot be measured in dollars. If people with good intentions can find a way to work together, I believe we can make a difference and possibly change the world. Team McAfee is a business and, yes, we’re here to make money. But not at the expense of our primary and existential goal: to change the world and make it a better place for everyone, not just the elite and the powerful. And to all of those aligned against cryptocurrency - see you at the finish line.
