LoggiaOnFire V3 Improves Site Performance and Reach Dramatically
I'm very pleased to announce the launch of V3 of LoggiaOnFire, my public corner of the web. This third iteration of the site is hosted on an entirely new software platform and on upgraded server hardware. The combination improves performance, reduces client and server side resource use and simplifies site security. The new custom publishing platform makes it far easier to get from idea to publication than Wordpress, which has a lot of nice features but is bulky and ineffecient to operate and maintain.Wordpress is a great tool for getting a functioning website up quickly. Unfortunately it is also a security nightmare, requiring constant updates that sometimes break things. Just yesterday yet another exploit was announced, allowing unauthorized database access through a plugin. The popularity of Wordpress makes it an attractive target, a situation unlikely to go away anytime soon. If you have visited the site before, you should notice a substantial improvement in performance. The new pages and assets use a lot less bandwidth and allow me to serve substantially more traffic from my server, offering the opportunity to reach more people. The new platform is also far more flexible and extensible than Wordpress, which will allow me to try new things to improve the overall experience and to keep the site interesting. The ultimate goal is to offer a steady stream of fresh, original content and to better highlight some of the projects I'm involved with. The new format also allows commenting using the Facebook Comments plugin. If you are a Facebook user, feel free to leave your 8 cents. Your comment will appear on the site and wherever the article is shared on Facebook. There is also now a subscription service. If you choose to subscribe, you'll receive new content as soon as it is available to your email inbox. To sign up, use the simple form in the sidebar. If you choose not to subscribe, please check back often. These are exciting times, and there is a lot to talk about.
